Indy 500 uses ethanol

Today the Indianapoliss 500 mile race is using pure 100% ethanol as its fuel. Last year they used methanol, but in a bow to the greens, the corn growing state of Indiana is pushing ethanol as an alternative fuel.

Already many stations are offering E85 a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline to price puzzled customers. I saw E85 for sale at $3.05/gallon, far less than premium at $3.79/gallon. The octane rating of E85 is 112 versus 93 for premium gasoline.

Perhaps with the endorsement of the Speedway racetrack we will see more people switching to E85 and buying flex fuel cars. Barak Obama says that present cars can be retro fitted for E85 for only $150 per car.
