Peak Water II

Desert landscape

What happens when we run out of water? OK you may have heard of PEAK OIL, but what about water? Well, and I mean well as in a deep hole in the ground. The Ogallala aquifer is running dry. It helps produce much of the food grown in america. Actually, over the last century we have been mining water. This is geological water from the last ice age. When it is gone so are we. Latest calculations from science says that it shall take over 6,000 years to refill the Ogallala Aquifer with rain water. Frankly our way of life is in deep darkness. A new dust bowl will arise.

The great drying

Climate change causes water shortage in Colorado River by 2050. I predict that global warming will make the US more desert like as we move into a hotter and dryer epoch. Millions of acres of crop land and over 50 million residents depend on water taken from the large Colorado River basin, but it is going dry.

Lack of water will force people to move out of deserts regions. I believe John Titor spoke of scarcity of water being a big problem in 2036. Desertification will continue as our warm wet world turns into a dry dystopian desert.
