amazon gets audible

Ok, so today we see that amazon is buying another company, audible.com the audiobook seller for about 300 million. Like before, amazon is moving into new territory and expanding its reach. This move allows the giant to become an even greater player in the book market.

Spacecraft falling DUCK!

A large bus sized spy satellite is falling out of the sky. The monster weighs several tons and we do not know where it will hit. We do know it will fall in feb. Get ready, these sorts of events will become more common in the future.

Future of Silver

Poor people cannot afford to buy an ounce of gold at more than $900. However silver costs a bit over $15/oz and is quite affordable for the poor; in fact, silver is often called poor man's gold. It has held its value over centuries and has done better than a CD.

The future of silver is as a store of value for the poor. It keep while paper money goes down. We see a bright future for silver.

We need to prepare ourselves for what may soon come.

Stimulus packaged snagged in the senate

The economy is in trouble and now we hear that the stimulus package is stuck in the Senate. Most of the senators appear to be in favor of the bill, but they are toying with it rather than passing it.

Maybe the voters should call their reps and ask what the hold up is. Why is it that the economic stimulus package is stuck in the senate?

Perhaps there is a reason that we are not aware of, but I wish they would hurry. Here is hoping for a brighter day.

Future of Electricity

We see miles and miles of wire crisscross our country like a giant spider web, that extends from shore to shore. The world we see is created by a sense of limitless power and yet in the future these electric poles will be no more.

What is the future of electricity?

Well, we will use other forms of power that will allow us to do more. The transition to the air was made possible by gasoline engines. The Wright Brothers would have never gotten off the ground using a coal powered steam engine. The heavy steam engine could power a steam ship or a steam locomotive, but there are no steam planes.

New forms of energy will allow us to make greater advances in technology than we ever thought possible.

SpaceShipTwo will soon lift off

Richard Branson is moving into the high fronteir. SpaceShipTwo will soon lift off with its passengers. The road to outer space has been a bit bumpy. Many people are afraid to risk it after seeing two shuttles blow up.

Stiil, there are those of us who dream of what lies beyond. For us SpaceShipTwo is a dream come true.

Life after the oil crash

I predict that the price of oil will continue to go up. The debunkers who said "Peak oil is a hoax" will change their tune when gasoline is rationed and long lines that stretch for miles will become the norm.

Life after the oil crash will not be pretty. Shortages of food and fuel will create many disruptions as science tries to find a substitute for black gold. Well, we have a few years before things get really bad, a few years to prepare for what is coming.

Job Predictions 2009

Few could have foreseen the calamity of the housing markets, and how it would affect the global economy; as you can see the world is going in a recession toward a deep downhill spiral. Still, how will that affect jobs?

The prospects for future employment seem meager indeed as the international businesses start to downsize and dump workers. Finding a position will become more of a challenge and keeping that job increasingly difficult.

My job predictions for 2009 do show a few bright spots in the area of ecoengineering and green tech as the world attempt to cut back on carbon emmisions and reduce levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, but even those green jobs will be low paying and dependant on government subsidies.

DOWn again today

It seems so far away when the DOW was going up. Now it seems like it goes DOWn every day. I predicted that it would sink below 10,000 and that there would be an economic slowdown.

Talk of recession fills the air as major decision makers prepare for the worst. The drop in the dwow was only 171 points, but that is rain on a flooded terrain. The bad news keep people wishing for the Clinton years.

Dow has dramatic down week with a drop in the triple digits.
Most analysts are worried about the recession. They see a steadily worsening economy and the decline in the dollar is causing inflation to rise.

Go for the gold

It is said that we should go for the gold. Well, we see that gold has managed to hold its value whereas the sharp drop in the dow and the declining dollar are another story. My prediction is that gold will do well this year.

Buget deficit at $250 billion

With the new stimulus package the budget deficit could reach $350 billion, which is more than twice as high as last years deficit of $163 billion. The economy is entering a state of collapse, not just in the US, but across the world.

Home sales have dropped to the lowest level in 25 years. The dow is dropping like a rock, and now there is talk that the second largest bank in France, Society Generale is in trouble due to a rogue trader. This means problems in the eurozone could collapse the economy there.

In both India and China the stock markets are in financial freefall as the sputtering world economy anticipates a prolonged recession that could cause many banks to crash.

Drought might force nuclear shutdown

The worse the drought becomes in the southeast US, the more drastic the measures become. There is now talk of possible nuclear shutdowns because there is not enought water in rivers to keep the nuclear power ploants cool.

Sad, but true. Things are getting worse and worse; in the past we never had a drought so bad that nuclear power plants were forced to shutdown. This could affect the economy in a negative fashion.

The choice of presidents

Never before in the history of the American public have people had a choice of a white woman or a black man for president. The future is now and we see that America is more diverse than before. On the republican side all candidates are white males.

Hillary is seen as ready to be president, on the other hand, Obama has one of the thinnest resumes in history. In contrast to Bill Richardson, who was gov of NM, Obama has only three years as senator. Hillary has eight years as part of the BILLary team. She sat on the board of Walmart, and she has been a senator for seven years.

If Al Gore can count his eight years as VP, then Hillary can sure count her eight years as first lady. Bill Clinton said in the 1992 election, two fo the price of one.

The future of women is now, we see a world where the ultimate glass ceiling is smashed and the most important job on earth goes to a woman.

Future Wars

People think that the future wars are spaceships firing lasers on Mars, but the war is here. Everyday my website is attacked by hackers from the former soviet union. These russians will hit numerous times and try to take out the servers.

I am on the front line of cyberwars. So far it is wise to not hit back, but in the future this cold war may become hot, millions of degrees hot. The future war is here.

Dow goes DOWn

It dive bombed almost 500 points today and was able to recover, but weak earnings are driving both the dollar and the dow lower. The rate cut interest rates 3/4 of a point, but this will only fuel inflation. People are losing confidence the the pastel pink fifty dollar bills and the monopoly money orangeback tens.

Trouble at Apple

The stock has fallen from a record high of $202 and quarterly profits are in doubt. Still, short term apple looks good. Long term there are problems at apple's very core.

The new operating system is based on Linux. As we know there are thorny legal issues. The future of Linux is not rosy. In days to come we see laws passed against open source / public domain software.

Cloning of humans from skin cells

US Biotech Firm Stemagen Clones Human Embryos fom the skin cells of its CEO.
Stemagen CEO Samuel H. Wood, said the achievement was "a critical milestone in the development of patient-specific embryonic stem cells for human therapeutic use, potentially including developing treatments for Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other degenerative diseases."

Truly this is the dawn of a new day. I predict human cloning is not far. We are getting ready to clone people.

Rough road ahead for Chrysler

This member of the big three is doing horrible. Trucks are doing terrible and the Dodge Ram is not going to sell well. On the luxury side, the economyisin a tail spin and we need to get green quick.

The monster trucks and SUVs that sold in the 90's are not what the driving public wants. They demand small fuel efficient cars. Mercedes dumped Chrysler and they have the smart car, the mini cooper and other small cars that appeal to the driving customer.

What we need is for Chrysler to produce hybrids and electric cars, otherwise I see massive layoffs for the troubled automaker.
