Without jobs the roman government gave free food to its citizens - think welfare. They also built cheap apartments - think public housing projects. The romans raised taxes to pay for all this which did cause more industry to move offshore. Future execs would do well to study history.

GM is in a struggle to survive. It will soon lose its number one automaker position to Toyota. GM execs were laughing back in the 90's when Toyota focued on hybrids, now the ar crying. GM has to slash its workforce to buy time, but this patient is terminal. As the economy implodes expect other big companies to announce similar measures. We are seeing the beginning of the end for the US as a world power.

Not only are people not spending, but many firms are cutting workers. Companies like Lowes, Home Depot are cutting back. They anticipate slowing sales in the next quarter. I predict a real soft summer.
Stock bounced after yesterdays hard fall of 370 points. We are in a recession that is getting worse. In other news Clinton beats Barack with 584 delegates to 569 delegates. She is now almost one hundred delegates ahead. Instead of catching up, Barack is falling futher behind.
Hillary Clinton compares her campaign to the New York Giants. People were sure that the Pats would win, but then came the upset. They came from behind to win the superbowl. Hillary is a giant.
The merger of M$ & Yahoo to create micrho is not certain. Google could ride to the rescue as a White Knight and keep Yahoo away from the clutches of the billster. We have seen how M$ crushes the competition. Being the Operating System seller gives M$ a lot of power, however, there are some clouds on the horizon.
Finally, you can go on the net while on a jet. The barriers to inflight internet are coming down. We have the technology and we have the desire to surf while we fly in the sky.

Well, we will use other forms of power that will allow us to do more. The transition to the air was made possible by gasoline engines. New forms of energy will allow us to make greater advances in technology than we ever thought possible.

I predict that the price of oil will continue to go up. The debunkers who said "Peak oil is a hoax" will change their tune when gasoline is rationed and long lines that stretch for miles will become the norm.

In both India and China the stock markets are in financial freefall as the sputtering world economy anticipates a prolonged recession that could cause many banks to crash.
The worse the drought becomes in the southeast US, the more drastic the measures become. There is now talk of possible nuclear shutdowns because there is not enought water in rivers to keep the nuclear power ploants cool.
Sad, but true. Things are getting worse and worse; in the past we never had a drought so bad that nuclear power plants were forced to shutdown. This could affect the economy in a negative fashion.

She sat on the board of Walmart, and she has been a senator for seven years.

What we now see is that analysts totally overlooked the experience factor. People want a president that can do the task, and no on the job training is required.

Let's take a good hard look at 2007. Sales of home appliances were terrible. I still see many item marked for clearance. I just bought a gas oven marked down from $499 to $299 and I asked for a further discount and they lowered the price down to $250, yes 1/2 price of the usual.
At Office deport a digital camera 6MP was marked down from $99 to $79 and then marked down again to $59. Back in 2006 this camera sold for $299. We are seeing no more happy faces. Things are getting bad as we slip into a reccession.
