My 2007 Predictions

LCD beats Plasma. At best buy more LCD TV units sold than all other formats combined.
HD-DVD beats bluray. Well, 578,000 HD DVD and 370,000 Blu-ray players were sold in 2007.

Gas over $3/gal. A miss, it is now 2.99 9/10 off by a 1/10 of a penny.
Oil over 100/b another miss it got as high as 99.60 but never broke 100.

Apple over 100 - big hit
Google over 600 - big hit
Trouble for GM - This year GM lost 39 billion.
Hybrids do well. Big hit. Prius sales are way up.
Lithium ion batteries replaces Nickle Metal in years to come.
High speed internet afforable. Back in 2005 I was paying $200/mo for broadband internet, now I only pay $10/mo.
Terabyte drives out in 2007. As late as mid may this year debunkers were laughing, but you can pick one up at best buy today.
Laptops for under $500 in 2007. Office Depot had some on sale for $399. Desktops for $299.

My prediction of trouble in real estate markets was a super hit.
The biggest hit of all was GOLD. I told people in 2001 to buy Gold. It is now over $833 an ounce.
My prediction that it would go over 1000/oz in 2009 looks a lot more possible now.

Even when I have a miss, it is not off by much.

Apple moves into movies

Using Itunes Apple will now allow people to download movies. The future is now. I see more people downloading films in the future. We will see more movies over the internet and fewer on HD DVD.

greatest movies of all time

THere are many great films in the cinema, movies that are the all time classics are few and far between. It is rare that you can tell that a movie will stand the test of time. That in the future people will remember it when so many other movies are long collecting cobwebs on some dusty shelf.

Still, there are a few movies that define our age and speak to generations about our time.

Toyota to become worlds largest automaker

With cars like the energy efficient Toyota Prius Hybrid Toyota is well on its way to claiming the high ground in the coming car wars. Toyota plans to move nearly ten million vehicles in 2008 making it the leader.

This is good news for green consumers, but terrible news for GM with is monster gigantor SUV trucks. GM lost 39 billion this year, yes, that is billion with a "B".

HDRTV - the Future of Television

It is not longer cool to call the HDR (High Dynamic Range) a TV, so they are called HDR displays. Perhaps this will cause confusioh with Steven Gibbs HDR, a very different product.

The HDR inventor Steven Gibbs created a device called the Hyper Dimensional Resonator bqck in 1985 many years before the LCD TV craze, well now the HDR display is supposed to be better than a plasma screen.

Keep looking up.

There is a dramatic decline in the dollar causing agricultural products to cost more. Wheat price is at a record $10/bushel and both corn and beans are at records as well. Food will become more expensive.

Inflation Surging

The high cost of oil is driving up prices and we see an increase in core inflation. Treasury prices fell for the third straight day. This is a very troubling scene with wages low and oil high the economy is in trouble.

What does the future hold?

To see tomorrow, let's take a look at how we got here. Look back ten years ago at the happy times in Clintonian America.

It was the best of times and the worst of times. The economy was roaring like the roaring 20's, but soon the stock market crashed and 911 happened. We are only now slowly digging out.

It will be perhaps Hillary Clinton that will lead us to prosperity. I hope so. The last few years of $3/gal and $100/oil are no fun at all. We need a new teams in the town. One that understands we must not spend more than we have.

Cute Robot from Japan

A cute robot cleans rest stops in Japan. This is more evidence that machines play a greater role in the future.

Arctic is melting

Global warming is causing the polar icecap to melt. This year for the first time in recorded history the northwest passage was ice free. We are seeing an ominous arctic melt.

The situation is bad because it is a vicious circle. As more ice melts the remaing open ocean absorbs even more solar radiation; add to that the climate change is bringing warmer surface temperatures.

In fact, our biggest problm is that sea ice reflects 80% of the suns energy back into space; whereas, open ocean absorbs 90% of solar radiation and reflects back only 10% of the light that hits it. So as more ice melts it drives the process to melt even more.

Expensive gasoline, YES!

Yesterday I was complaining about paying $3.47/gallon of gasoline, and today the price shot up to $3.55/gallon. We are looking at $4/gal of gas in the near future. It keep going up like a rocket...

Making the top ten of cities with most expensive gasoline prices are NYC, LA, miami, and Chicago. These big cities have prices higher than we would expect.

Ethanol will not rescue us as few cars are E85 and there is not enough capacity to convert corn into fuel. We need to move to electric cars and use solar power to generate electricity as well as wind power.

Both HDRusers.com & FluxCap.com down

Today, both HDRusers.com & FluxCap.com got hacked. It seems the debunkers are angry. The sites dealing with the HDR are getting smashed. Hope they are back up tomorrow.

BTW, somebody is posting garbage on HDRKID.com forum and they do not stop...

Russians buy LiveJournal

A company from russia is buying blogger competitor LiveJournal. This is interesting as we move into the future the world will see russia become more powerful and assertive...

Here is hoping that all goes well. Livejournal is an XLent property for a high tech firm to use to buy a new infrastructure for a new tomorrow.

Warmer World

See how a warmer world will affect you. Global warming is real and its effects will soon being to alter the climate of a hothouse earth.

With the amount of greenhouse gases we can expect temperature to rise and that will melt the polar icecap. The coasts will be flooded and greater evaporation will cause storms to be intense.

Congress raises fuel standard to 35mpg by 2020

In a dramatic attempt to increase efficiency congress voted to raise fuel standards to 35mpg by 2020. What does this mean?

Well, the most efficient car GM has is the Korean made Chevy Aveo with gets 34mpg highway / 27 mpg city. In contrast the hybrid car Toyota Prius gets about 60mpg. The current fuel average for US cars & trucks is about 20mpg. In contrast in Japan it is 45mpg; even Europe has 37mpg now and plans to reach 50mpg by 2009.

Sadly, the retrograde mentality of GM has made it lose 39 billion dollars this year and it might go under. People are not buying the Gigantor SUV trucks anymore. GM should have focused on producing hybrids, not hummers.
