A scientist predicted the earthquake in Italy. He was accuse of spreading false rumors in court. OK so the quake happens and hundreds die.

Sadness over the over 200 dead in the Abruzzo earthquake that hit L'Aquila, Italy is overpowering, but the greatest sadness is that this could have been avoided. There were warnings of the coming catastrophe.

The effect of debunkers is to claim that everything is fine. However, this can cause trouble for those foolish enough to heed them - as always we must remain alert.
